"Discover Georgia–Cradle of Wine"
2018

“Discover Georgia – Cradle of Wine”
Mel Lastman Square - September 30, 2018.

On September 30th, 2018 Georgian Women’s Action Group organized its inaugural cultural event in Canada, “Discover Georgia – Cradle of Wine”, to great success! Sponsored by the Georgian Embassy, this event was dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the First Republic of Georgia, with a primary aim of introducing Georgian culture and history to Canadians. It gave us great pleasure to host and showcase exhibits celebrating the national costume, along with the contemporary fashion designs of “Fesvedi”, photography of prominent Georgian women and, not in the least, our music, cuisine and crafts. We’re delighted to have received such positive feedback about this first initiative!

The festival opened with a delicious selection of Georgian dishes for attendees to sample, generously donated by the restaurant, “Suliko”. Participants enjoyed the food while viewing a children’s Georgian Wrestling Show, with the young competitors performing to their best effort – much to the delight of the audience!

Visitors were then greeted by the GW Action Group’s representative, Georgian Ambassador Mr. Konstantine Kavtaradze, who spoke about Georgian history, its people, language and culture.

The Ambassador’s address was followed by concert performances from both Georgian & Canadian artists, including: “DARBAZI Choir”, “Machari Trio”, “Gabo’s Trio”, “Alilo”, Shalva Makharashvili, Andrea Kuzmich, Ucha Abuladze, Diana and Madona Iremashvili, the Hakimov family, Folk Camp, and special guests from New York – pianist Merab Ebralidze, Nani Kvrivishvili, Larisa Sadunishvili and Leila Mtchedlishvili.
