NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg spoke at the University of Toronto, hosted by the the NATO Association of Canada, the Canadian Centre for the Responsibility to Protect, and Massey College.
Robert Baines, the President & CEO of NATO Association of Canada, welcomed the audience and introduced Dr. Tina Park, a Co-Founder & Executive Director of the Canadian Centre for the Responsibility to Protect, who then introduced and welcomed Canadian Lieutenant-General Christine Whitecross. In 2011 and again in 2016, Whitecross was named one of Canada’s 100 most-powerful women. The Lt.-Gen. thanked the hosts and spoke about NATO and Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg’s achievements in Norway.
Stoltenberg addressed Canadian officials, Generals, Ambassadors and the public, then followed up with a 45-minute Q&A. In his speech, Stoltenberg highlighted NATO’s importance in peacekeeping as the organization celebrates its 70th anniversary and stated, “Today, transatlantic relations are still the cornerstone of European peace with NATO, the unifying institutional heart of that major part of Europe which is free and whole”. He also spoke about NATO’s current key challenges, how NATO adapts to the modern world and the most likely evolution of the Alliance looking forward.
Today’s event was broadcast live on Facebook and can be viewed on the the NATO Association of Canada’s Facebook page.
Members of the Georgian Women’s Action Group (GW Action Group) accepted the invitation to attend and look forward to establishing a closer partnership with the NATO Association of Canada in the near future.
Four members from the Georgian Women’s Action Group participated in ‘Young Entrepreneurs in New Europe 2019’ in Gothenburg Sweden – a 5 day educational camp and networking event. Two members attended from Toronto (Eto Elizbarashvili and Tika Gagua) and two from Tbilisi (Keti Gvazava and Tatia Baramidze).
GW Action Group thanks our generous hosts (and Swedish Partner organization) NTI Gymnasiet Göteborg, ntigymnasiet.se, with special thanks to the Youth Program Manager, Dennis Larsen, for his personal effort and commitment. The event serves to connect youth from New Europe, Africa and Americas through education of the principles of entrepreneurship, business management skills training and corporate social responsibility (CSR). The host organization provides an optimal learning environment within a beautiful venue and, most importantly, certified training in Business Planning as conducted by the faculty of Oxford Brooks School of Business.
This is a unique opportunity that GW Action Group offers its members as part of the organization’s mission to support the professional development of young women, through education and knowledge transferring. We are excited to promote networking for social change among young women, whose generation is considered the most informed, educated, and connected one in human history. YEE promotes and connects the globe’s most impactful young leaders to create a better world – one that includes a more responsible and effective entrepreneurship and leadership. We genuinely thank all the organizers and applicants who made this project a reality and, not in the least, the participants for their motivation, willingness and commitment of time (during the short summer season!) of five transformative days of panels, group assignments, speeches and workshops.
Coming Soon: GW Action group will soon be opening online applications for Canadian and Georgian youth who wish to participate in these two events: the Young Atlanticist Summit organized by the UN Atlantic Council and the Annual International Event – One Young World Summit that will take place this October 2019.
